Portuguese Synagogue - Amsterdam
Portuguese Synagogue. Four former synagogues dating from the 17th and 18th-century have been converted into Amsterdam's Jewish Historical Museum. The four original buildings are linked with modern glass and steel constructions to form one whole - a unique museum lying at the heart of what used to be the Amsterdam Jewish quarter. The museum's permanent collection tells the story of Dutch Jewry. You can arrange for a guided tour of the museum, of the impressive Portuguese synagogue across the road, andn through old Jewish Amsterdam.

Rembrandt's House - Amsterdam
Rembrandt's House. He walks through the house and revels in it. Rembrandt the collector. Downstairs there are paintings crowding the walls. Dutch, Flemish, Italian, all jostling for space. Here, in the Cabinet there are stacks of albums, crammed full of etchings and drawings. By Druer, Lucas van Leyden, Raphael, Holbein, Titian and Rembrandt himself. They inspire him. Like the coins in a small display case, the oriental porcelain, the outlandish garments, the Venetian glass. He closes a drawer containing six fans and a bird of paradise, examines a globe, picks up a Japanese sword and puts on a helmet. Twelve plaster busts of Roman emperors look on. On the floor there are exotic baskets filled with horns, stones, minerals, shells.
