Hotel Kampa - Prague - Czech
I'he building in which Hotel Kampa is situated now, was originally an armoury, built in early Baroque style at the beginning of the 17th century. In 1992, after extensive renovation, it was reopened to provide hotel accommodation for visitors to Prague. Kampa Island - Prague - Czech
Crossing over Charles Bridge from the Star? Mesto side, you'll see one of the best photo opportunities in the city: the twin towers of the bridge, framing an almost perfect view of the Church of St Nicholas and the Castle behind. Before continuing, however, take the flight of steps on the left, leading down to Na Kampe, the principal square of Kampa Island. Until 1770, it was known simply as Ostrov or 'island', which understandably led to confusion with the other islands of the Vltava. Kampa is an oasis of calm on even the most crowded August day. One of the loveliest parks in the city is located at its southern end. This was created in the nineteenth century when an egalitarian decision was made to join the gardens of three private palaces and throw them open to the public. While washerwomen once rinsed shirts on the banks (note the Chapel to St John of the Laundry near the southern end), today it's taken up by snoozing office workers and bongo-beating Eurohippies. The river and bridge views are as romantic as they come, while the chestnut trees make shady spots for reading and recharging. In spring the park is filled with pink blossom. Kampa Park the restaurant, one of Prague's classier and pricier eateries, is actually at the other end of the island, where the Certovka runs back into the river.

O'Connell Street and Bridge - Dublin
O' Connell Street And Bridge. Originally designed and built by James Gandon, O'Connell Bridge was built in 1794-98 and named aftyer the then Viceroy - Lord Carlisle. The original bridge had a hump and was much narrower and Gandon had designed obelisks and plinths for the four corners. In 1880 it was widened and the hump removed - it is now almost square - being as wide as it is long. In 1882 it was renamed after Daniel O'Connell when the statue in his honour was unveiled.

Old Quarter - Hanoi - Vietnam
Old QuarterAs the oldest continuously developed area of Vietnam, Hanoi's Old Quarter has a history that spans 2,000 years and represents the eternal soul of the city. Located between the Lake of the Restored Sword, the Long Bien Bridge, a former city rampart, and a citadel wall, the Old Quarter started as a snake and alligator-infested swamp. It later evolved into a cluster of villages made up of houses on stilts, and was unified by Chinese administrators who built ramparts around their headquarters. The area was named ""Dominated Annam"" or ""Protected South"" by the Chinese.
