Presidential Palace - Hanoi - Vietnam
Presidential PalaceOriginally, here stood the palace of the French governor of Cochin China, built in 1868. Later the building was the official residence of the South Vietnamese president Ngo Dinh Diem. The palace was bombed in February 1962 by two South Vietnamese fighter planes in an attempt to assassinate Diem. The president and his family hid in the cellar and remained unscathed. The original building was then replaced by a new one, which now is the Hall of Reunification. Inside the new building everything was left the way it was found on April 30, 1975, when North Vietnamese forces took Saigon.

Riding School - Vienna - Austria
Is the oldest and last Riding School in the world where classic dressage is still practised in its purest form. This Institute was founded in 1572 and its very name gives away the fact that the horses were of Spanish origin. The superb arena - the Winter Riding School in the Vienna Hofburg (Imperial Palace) in which the Riders of the Spanish Riding School train the horses and where they perform was commissioned by Emperor Karl VI. His portrait decorates the white baroque hall built by Josef Emanuel Fischer von Erlach from 1729 to 1735. Since 1920 the presentations of classical dressage have been open to the public.

Royal Palace - Oslo - Norway
The Palace was designed by Norwegian architect H. D. F. Linstow and constructed between 1825 and 1848. It was the Swedish-Norwegian King Carl Johan who in 1822 drew attention to the ""need for a suitable residence for the country's Monarch"" and initiated building plans. Linstow presented the design for the royal residence the following year and building commenced in 1825. During the period of union with Sweden, 1814-1905, the Palace was used only during the King's visits to Oslo. It did not become a permanent residence for the royal family until 1905, when Danish Prince Carl, after the dissolution of the union and the national referendum, agreed to become King of Norway, assuming the name of Haakon VII.

Emperor Francis Joseph (ruled 1848-1916), who was born here in 1830, and liked to live the same Spartan life he imposed on the soldiers of his army, spent the last years of his life entirely in Sch÷nbrunn. In 1918, the palace became the property of the new republic. Owing to its historical importance, its beautiful location, its magnificent architecure and the splendid layout of its gardens, this palace is among the very top sights in Vienna. The rooms, shown to the public on guided tours, are mostly decorated in Rococo style. Most of the walls and ceilings are covered with white-lacquered surfaces with ornamentation covered with gold leaf. Bohemian crystal chandeliers and white porcelain tile stoves are also part of the harmonious design. The living quarters and offices used by Emperor Francis Joseph are simple and very unpretentious; by contrast, the state rooms and guestrooms are much more lavish. In 1772, six-year-old child prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart gave a concert in the Hall of Mirrors.
