Castle District - Budapest - Hungary
The Castle District is one of the most romantic pedestrian sections in Budapest. A medieval little town with atmospheric streets, picturesque houses, gas lamps and beautiful monuments. The main street of the district - Tßrnok Street - ranges from D?sz Square to today's district centre, Matthias Church. Colourful little houses border the square and the neighbouring streets. The winding streets and narrow houses date back to the Middle Ages, occasionally decorated with valuable Gothic window and door frames. Elegant Baroque and Louis XVI-style palaces are relics of the restoration work after the Turkish occupation.

Dam & Royal Palace - Amsterdam
The Royal Palace & Dam Square. Today's royal palace was built in the 17th-century as Amsterdam's Town Hall. The long wars with Spain had ended in 1648 and last Amsterdam could concentrate on beautifying the city. Its Town Hall was to be an eighth wonder of the world. The most famous architects, painters and sculptors of the day combined on this imposing project: Jacob van Campen, Artus Quellinus, Govaert Flinck, Ferdinand Bol. The city was at the height of its glory as a world trading power, and this is reflected in its public buildings. Later, when Louis Napoleon became king of Holland in 1808, he chose Amsterdam as his home and the Town Hall became a Royal Palace.

Down Castle Ward - County Down
Castle Ward. Fragments are all that remain of the great medieval fortress that once served as a symbol of Royal authority in Ireland and the center of administration. From 1684 to 1761 it was extensively rebuilt, though the shape of the Anglo-Norman castle roughly coincides with the rebuilding. Its construction began in 1204 when King John directed Meiler FitzHenry, the Justiciar, to make a castle in Dublin ""with good ditches and strong walls"".
