Espoo With Islands - Helsinki - Finland
(In Swedish Esbo) Population 200 000. Town charter in 1972. According to prehistoric finds, the area was settled as early as 3500 B.C. Espoo's greystone church was completed in the early 15th century, and in 1458 Espoo became an independent parish. Espoo has five regional centres. The best-known of them is Tapiola Garden City, a pioneer work of Finnish town planning.

Fantoft Church - Bergen - Norway
The old stave church at Fantoft, originally built in Fortun in Sogn in 1150 and moved to Fantoft in 1883, burnt down in 1992. Fantoft Stave Church has now been rebuilt just as it was before the fire.

Gabriel Chruch - Nazareth
Nazareth. Nestled in the hills of Lower Galilee, overlooking the Jezreel Valley is Nazareth with its white stone houses, curving lanes and olive trees. Nazareth's Biblical attractions include the Basilica of the Annunciation, one of the most revered shrines of the Christian world and the largest church in the Middle East. It marks the site of the Annunciation, where the Archangel Gabriel delivered his message to Mary that she would give birth to Jesus. A few blocks away is the Synagogue Church at the mouth of the Nazareth marketplace. According to legend, it marks the site of the ancient synagogue where Jesus is believed to have preached as a young man and read the prophecy of Isaiah, predicting the coming of the Messiah.

The Royal Observatory Greenwich was founded in 1675 by Charles II to find out the 'so-much desired longitude of places for perfecting the art of navigation.' The architect was Sir Christopher Wren, who designed St Paul's Cathedral and was himself an astronomer. The Observatory was built on the foundations of Duke Humphrey's Tower which had stood on the site since 1438. John Flamsteed, the first Astronomer Royal, moved into the new building, now named Flamsteed House, in July 1676.

Hanoi CathedralHanoi Cathedral was built on the site of the former Bao Thien Tower, which was famous in the ancient capital of Thang Long under the Ly dynasty (11th and 12th centuries). Hanoi Cathedral, also known as Saint Joseph's Cathedral, was inaugurated on Christmas Day 1886, two years after its construction. Its design is similar to the architecture of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Hillsborough - County Down
Hillsborough. The Georgian village of Hillsborough is rich in history. Hillsborough Fort with its eight-foot high earth ramparts, dates back to around 1650 and was used as a Royal Fortress by King Charles II. Other buildings of note include the market house, the parish church of St Malachy, built in 1636 and the Castle, seat of the former Governors of Northern Ireland.
