Amalienborg Square - Copenhagen - Denmark
The stately square at Amalienborg Palace, where the royal guard changes every day at noon and Danes gather every year on April 16th to celebrate the queen's birthday. The inspiration for Amalienborg Slotsplads is taken from the French Baroque Period, and leading examples of this are the Place Vend?me in Paris and the Place Dauphine in Versailles. Slotspladsen is flanked by four palaces and has Frederikskirken (Frederik's Church) as its focal point in much the same way as Place Dauphine in Versailles is flanked by four palaces and has a church as ""point de vue"". The four palaces were originally built by and for four families of nobility, among them the Moltke and the Gyldenl°ve families. The statue in the middle of the square is known as Saly's equestrian statue. It took the French sculptor, Jacques Francois-Joseph Saly almost 20 years to create the statue, which today is recognised as one of Europe's most famous equestrian statues. The monument depicts Frederik V and was unveiled in 1771. A group of marines drove the 22-ton statue across Kongens Nytorv to a 27-gun salute and the curious eyes of thousands of interested onlookers.

Black Diamond - Copenhagen - Denmark
The Black Diamond is the official short name for the new Royal Library department. The sloping walls of this remarkable piece of architecture are coated with black mirror finish from Zimbabwe. Situated on the habour front, the massive building resembles a magic stone, and this impression is further developed on sunny days when the light is being reflected wonderfully in the facade. A subtle symbol of the ancient quest for knowledge and truth. It is no coincidence that the square in front is called The S°ren Kierkegaard Square.

Carlsberg Glyptotek - Copenhagen - Denmark
The founder of the Glyptotek was the brewer Carl Jacobsen (1842-1914), who also started one of the largest private art collections of his time. He named it after his Carlsberg brewery, adding 'Glyptotek', meaning 'collection of sculpture'. Jacobsen was equally interested in French and Danish art, and antique art originating from the Mediterranean area. Carl Jacobsen subsequently bequeathed his collection to public ownership. Two deeds dating from 1888 and 1899 committed the recipients, the Municipality of Copenhagen and the Danish state, to supporting the construction of a museum. In 1902, Carl Jacobsen secured the financial basis for the running of this by setting up the Ny Carlsberg Foundation, which has been jointly responsible for running the museum as a self-governing institution since 1953, along with the Municipality of Copenhagen and the Danish State.

Copenhagen Strand - Copenhagen - Denmark
In July 2000 The Arp-Hansen Hotel Group opened its 8th hotel: Copenhagen Strand. The hotel is centrally located in the fashionable quarter in the heart of Copenhagen - around the Nyhavn Canal, The Royal Theatre and Kongens Nytorv. The exclusive 3-star hotel is situated on the waterfront in one of the harbour's original warehouses. The building dates back to 1869 and through the years it has, for instance, housed a cardboard box factory and a paper mill. The old buildings are beautifully and carefully restored, and the decor is rustic and maritime, making it one of Copenhagen's most charming hotels with a fantastic atmosphere. Copenhagen Strand is easily reached from anywhere: It is close to trains and busses, the airport and the ?resund Bridge, and the flying boats to Sweden leaves practically from outside your door.
