BYTOWN MUSEUM. Bytown Museum, off Wellington Street at the bottom of Ottawa Locks behind the Chateau Laurier Hotel, is in the former commissariat used by the Royal Engineers and Lt. Col. John By during the building of the Rideau Canal. This is the oldest masonry building in the city and contains exhibits and displays about the history of Bytown and Ottawa.
