Nazareth. Nestled in the hills of Lower Galilee, overlooking the Jezreel Valley is Nazareth with its white stone houses, curving lanes and olive trees. Nazareth's Biblical attractions include the Basilica of the Annunciation, one of the most revered shrines of the Christian world and the largest church in the Middle East. It marks the site of the Annunciation, where the Archangel Gabriel delivered his message to Mary that she would give birth to Jesus. A few blocks away is the Synagogue Church at the mouth of the Nazareth marketplace. According to legend, it marks the site of the ancient synagogue where Jesus is believed to have preached as a young man and read the prophecy of Isaiah, predicting the coming of the Messiah.
