Lou Lim Ieoc Garden - Macau - China
Previous Next
Lou Lim Ieoc Garden This is the most Chinese of Macau's gardens and was built, together with a flamboyant western-style house, by a wealthy Chinese merchant in the 19th century. He was known as Lou Kau, which is the popular name for the garden, and on his death in 1906 his son Lou Lim Ieoc inherited the property. The family fortunes declined and in 1938 the house was sold and converted into a school, which it remains. The garden fell into ruins and was bought and restored by the government which opened it to the public in 1974.
