Letrebaerg Castle - Copenhagen - Denmark
Previous Next
Ledreborg has been described as, ""The most romantic privately owned palace in Denmark"". It is one of Denmark's finest examples of 18th century building and landscape architecture. It was founded in 1742 when as Lord Chamberlain to Christian VI Count Johan Ludvig Holstein created Ledreborg in its present form. Ledreborg which is situated just west of the Danish capital Copenhagen has now been the home of the Holstein-Ledreborg family for over 250 years. The main building contains a unique collection of paintings and furniture, which has remained virtually unchanged since Ledreborg was built. Looking out of the south facing door, one is greeted by a spectacular view, a sudden drop into a small valley which has been transformed into an elaborate terraced garden in the 18th century French style, set in a 80 hectare (190 acre) wooded river valley park.
