Mackenzie House - Toronto
Previous Next
MACKENZIE HOUSE. Mackenzie House was the home of Toronto's first mayor and leader of the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837, an attempt to shift more civil authority to the populace and away from British-appointed officials. The dwelling, presented to William Lyon Mackenzie by grateful citizens, is now restored and furnished in Mid-Victorian style. A fully functional, re-created 19th-century printing shop and the kitchen both offer demonstrations. More information atwww.TorontoHistory.on.ca.
