In 1483, Edward V and his brother were murdered in the Bloody Tower in one of the great unsolved mysteries of history. Two of the wives of Jolly King Henry VIII were beheaded in the courtyard, and in 1941 Rudolf Hess was sent to the Tower after his parachute dumped him in Scotland.
