Schonbrunn - Vienna - Austria
Sch÷nbrunn Palace was generally used as the summer residence of the Habsburgs. Emperor Francis Joseph (ruled 1848-1916), who was born here in 1830, and liked to live the same Spartan life he imposed on the soldiers of his army, spent the last years of his life entirely in Sch÷nbrunn. In 1918, the palace became the property of the new republic. Owing to its historical importance, its beautiful location, its magnificent architecure and the splendid layout of its gardens, this palace is among the very top sights in Vienna. The rooms, shown to the public on guided tours, are mostly decorated in Rococo style. Most of the walls and ceilings are covered with white-lacquered surfaces with ornamentation covered with gold leaf. Bohemian crystal chandeliers and white porcelain tile stoves are also part of the harmonious design. The living quarters and offices used by Emperor Francis Joseph are simple and very unpretentious; by contrast, the state rooms and guestrooms are much more lavish. In 1772, six-year-old child prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart gave a concert in the Hall of Mirrors.

Small Great Palfy Garden - Prague - Czech
Of the two towers, the lower one is in Romanesque style and dates from the 12th century. It is a remnant of the older Judith Bridge. The higher tower is 200 years younger and was erected in the 15th century; unlike the other,it is open to the public, except for the winter months. Prague Information Service has opened one of its centres here. One of the Palace gardens near Palfy palace, flourished in the 18th century when various romantic structures were built with art decorations (salla terrena, garden terraces, loggias, ballustrades, fountains etc.).

Spadina House - Toronto
SPADINA - HISTORIC HOUSE & GARDENS. Ever wonder how the other half lived? Spadina is the place to find out. There's an incredible collection of art, furniture, and artifacts original to the house. In fact, the same family, the Austins, occupied the house from 1866 to 1980! If you visit in the summer, be sure to take in the restored Victorian and Edwardian gardens.
