Central Market Hall - Budapest - Hungary
The largest and richest indoor market in Budapest was built at the end of the 19th century when open market facilities were no longer able to satisfy the needs of a growing city. The construction of five market halls was thus started and the Grand Market Hall was the most attractive and interesting shopping site. Its neo-Gothic architecture links the building to a forgotten ?poque, but its state-of-the-art steel structure and logical interior furnishing show early signs of modern functional architecture. It is still a very busy and vivid market, definitely worth a visit if you wish to get a glimpse of the everyday life of ordinary Hungarians. Foreign diplomatic delegations often get shown round here. Since being restored to its original glory in 1994, it is well worth a visit.

City Hall - Belfast
City Hall. The City Hall, built around 1903, dominates the main shopping area. Built in the grand Classical Renaissance style, with an Italian marble interior, it looks rather like American state capitol buildings except for the big statue of Queen Victoria at the front. She came to Belfast in 1849 - gave the town the status of city - and must have been held in high esteem by its citizens since dozens of streets, a hospital, a park, a man-made island, the harbour deep-water channel and the University were all named after her.

City Hall - Chicago
City Hall. Since 1853, the governments of Chicago and Cook County have shared three different buildings on this site. The monumental, Classical Revival-style exterior of the present structure, which was designed to be a functional and efficient office building, symbolizes the strength, dignity, and vigor of the governmental functions it contains. The County Building was completed in 1908; City Hall was finished in 1911.

City Hall - Geneva - Switzerland
This is the administrative headquarters of the local government. The unusual square ramp of the staircase made it easier for messengers to arrive on horseback in days gone by. The ""Alabama"" plaque is a reminder that the Anglo-American conflict was the first international dispute to be resolved in Geneva. Don't miss the summer concerts, given in the interior courtyard.

City Hall - Oslo - Norway
In 1915 the former mayor of Oslo, Hieronymus Heyerdahl, presented a plan that combined clearing the old Oslo harbor slums and building a new City Hall in the area. The occupation of Norway in 1940-45 delayed completion of the building. The formal inauguration took place on Oslo Day, 15 May 1950, simultaneously with the celebration of the 900th anniversary of the founding of the city of Oslo.
