Skansen - Stockholm - Sweden
Skansen is the first open-air museum in the world. Skansen is also a zoological park specialising mainly in Nordic fauna. It is located on the island of Djurg?rden, a royal park near the centre of Stockholm. Skansen was founded in 1891 by Arthur Hazelius (1833-1901) for the purpose of showing how people had lived and worked in different parts of Sweden in times gone by. Over the years about 150 historic buildings have been moved here from nearly every part of Sweden. Most of them date from the 18th and 19th centuries. Visitors to the houses and farmsteads are met by hosts and hostesses in period costume. They often demonstrate domestic occupations, such as weaving and spinning.

The Great Church - Stockholm - Sweden
Storkyrkan, is a rectangular brick church consecrated in 1306, that is technically Stockholm's cathedral - the monarchs of Sweden are married and crowned here. The Baroque interior is marvellous, with an animated fifteenth-century sculpture of St George and the Dragon, and - perhaps more impressive - the royal pews, more like golden billowing thrones, and a monumental black and silver altarpiece.

The Royal Palace - Stockholm - Sweden
The Royal Palace of Stockholm is the sovereign's official residence. Their Majesties the King and Queen and the Duchess of Halland have their offices here. The administration of the Royal Court is located here, and this too is the setting for most of the official receptions given by the Head of State. The history of the Royal Palace goes back many centuries. Extensive excavations of the surrounding area (Helgeandsholmen) between 1978 and 1980 revealed traces of very ancient timber structures, dateable to the end of the 10th century.

Wasa Boat Museum - Stockholm - Sweden
The Vasa Museum is Scandinavia's most visited museum, located in Stockholm, capital of Sweden. The Museum was inaugurated in 1990. In the large shiphall stands the warship Vasa - the only remaining, intact 17th century ship in the world. The lower rig has been rebuilt, complete with masts, stays and shrouds. Just like the Vasa would have looked like when set for winter in harbour. The wreck, salvaged in 1961, is now once again a complete ship. Surrounding the ship are several permanent exhibitions, cinemas, a shop and a restaurant.
